ST MARY’S CHOIR

The Choir helps to lead the worship each Sunday at the Parish Eucharist at 10:00. We also sing at a variety of special Civic Services and Carols Services. There are also a number of weddings each year at which we are asked to sing. We gather at 09:30 on a Sunday morning to run through the music for the service.

We meet on Friday evenings for rehearsal;

19:00   Junior Choir

19:30   Adults

19:45   Junior break & adult rehearsal

20:00   Full rehearsal

20:30   Junior leave

21:00   Rehearsal finishes

On a Monday specialist vocal training is taught by a voice coach. This is under the framework of the Royal School of Church Music’s Training Scheme ‘Voice for Life’.  Juniors meet between 18:00 and 19:00 and adults then meet between 19:00 and 20:00.

Normally children commence in the choir from the age of 9, although sometimes we make exceptions.

Music plays a major role in church and community life at St Mary's, within the context both of formal worship and other activities that take place in the building. We embrace the power that music has to uplift us, inspire us and bring us together.

A recent legacy from a former long-serving choir member is enabling to provide music and education at St Mary's to be substantially resourced and animated. We welcome all who wish to share in the musical life of the church and community.
