St Mary Bloomers
|
St Mary’s Bloomers is a small group of friendly ladies (and gentlemen) who have a passion for flowers and St Mary’s Church. The group started in its present form in c. 1999 and has expanded over the years. The Bloomers are responsible for providing flowers in the Church on a regular weekly basis, for weddings, specials occasions and for church festivals – Easter, harvest and Christmas. In recent years there has also been a flower festival in the summer. Their claim to fame is that the flowers have appeared on BBC TV (albeit behind Father Shane!), and in the local papers and magazines. As well as the actual flower arranging there are regular meetings, fund raising events and also a social side including the annual Christmas meal and outings. The Bloomers welcome everyone - young or old, male or female, the novice or experienced flower arranger. No previous experience is necessary people can come along just to help out - cutting up leaves, sweeping up or making numerous cups of tea, making cakes and crafts to sell at fund raising events, to learn more about art of flower arranging or to indulge their passion for flowers. |
