St. James the GreatSt. Mary the Virgin's New Artist

Constantina Wood, an Aylesbury artist, specializes in the ‘writing’ of holy Russian icons. She will be based in the church and will be developing some exciting new community projects.

She will be 'resident' every Wednesday at the church from 10am to 2.30pm working on current projects, either oil paintings on biblical themes or an icon in progress.  She is happy to demonstrate her skills to anyone who is passing through and to talk about up and coming projects or to take on board suggestions.

The Rector of St Mary’s has said he is delighted that Constantina will be working with small community groups & schools and developing educational resources.

Her first project for the churches in Aylesbury was a commission for St. James the Great church in Bierton.  The icon above is Constantina's version of the original painting by Veneziano and can be seen in St. James'.

Icons, said to be written, are undertaken with silence, prayer and reverence for Almighty God.  This particular icon was a pleasure to undertake and a meditation Constantina has written of the icon can be read here.
