The Aylesbury Project for Deaf Young People

'The Aylesbury Project' is a small group of people who have come together to look at how best the Church in Aylesbury can help deaf young people. It has been identified that the Aylesbury Vale area has no provision at present for the spiritual needs of this particular community. Fr David and Suzanne Ackford have been meeting at St. Mary's together with other members of the diocesan Council for the Deaf to work through the various ways that we can best reach out to this group of young people! So far, the project has initiated the following:

  • Sign Language Classes for the youth leaders and other interested people
  • A Facebook page for the group
  • A resourced research worker who is visiting the many organisations in the Vale to seek out contact with these young people
  • Identifying web-based resources and other interest groups

The project is not purely a 'hearing' venture for deaf people; among our number in the group we are fortunate to have the guidance and advice from a young deaf man who has done much for us including visiting existing organisations.

If you are interested in this work, or feel you have something to offer, please contact Fr David or Suzanne Ackford.

This project is part of the work of the Oxford Diocesan Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
